Get Frank chats with Matt Heath, Hauraki DJ.
How did you land the role at Hauraki?
The previous Hauraki Drive Host was in a violent altercation at an airport. So they needed a new one. Someone from Hauraki tuned into the breakfast show I was on at the time, liked what they heard, rang me up and offered me the job.
Your timeslot on Hauraki certainly keeps more respectable hours than your last job! Are you enjoying your sleep ins?
It's amazing. I was becoming a bit of a grumpy A-hole getting up at 5am. Starting work at 4pm is a dream come true.
You seem to be a jack-of-all trades. Acting, writing, radio DJ… is there anything you can’t do?
I can't spell, I still can't do a front flip on a trampoline and I still haven't completely nailed Mr Brownstone on my guitar. I've got the notes, I just can't get the feel.
What’s your biggest accomplishment to date?
The feature film I made and my small part in the creation of my two young boys Chaz and Baz.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Either Killing Yourself To Live – Black Sabbath or Edge of the Deep Greed Sea – The Cure.
What one person (living or dead) do you think defines “rock legend”?
It's got to be Keith Richard. Not only because of the R 'n R excess but because he really loves music. He just really loves playing his guitar. Mind you I watched a bunch of Elvis behind the scenes docos the other night. Elvis was pretty freaking cool too.
What songs are on your personal playlist at the moment?
I'm still listening to Bloc Party's last album and I've been reacquainting myself with Judas Priest. Oh and Soundgarden's new one.
Who is your favourite person you follow on Twitter?
My co host The General @thegeneralnz. He is new to twitter and doesn't quite get it. Also I enjoy @neilhamburger America's $1 funnyman. His war with corporate twitter accounts is really funny.
What is your vice?
I love drinking but I don't feel bad about it.
What’s the best advice your grandmother ever gave you?
I was seven and staying at her house on a stormy night while my parents were overseas. Her house is terrifying and I was too scared to go down the long hall to bed. My room was dark, massive and decorated with petrifying paintings of dead ancestors who had lived in the house. My Grandma put her hand on my shoulder and said 'Don't be such a bloody wuss, shut up and go to bed'.
Are you as good looking in real life as your Twitter photo?
I look way better in real life. I am 3D and there is a whole lot more of me.
